5 tips for being creative this week

Did you know that the more creative you are, the longer you live? Studies suggest that making art can decrease stress, help build confidence, and cut down any negative emotions you might be feeling.

These five tips have the ability to completely turn your day around. Creating art can feel like an uphill battle sometimes, but we’re here to make it easier for you.

Need we say more? Here’s how to stay creative this week:

1. Set out time in your day to be creative

“But I don’t have any extra time!” you say. Good news: you only need a couple of minutes to create something. You have control of what you do today, so set out some time for yourself to actually go and make art! Start by setting out a few minutes today to paint, draw, write – whatever you want! Otherwise, other stuff will get in the way and, honestly, you deserve at least a few minutes of me-time. After setting out time to be creative, you’ll find that you look forward to making something tomorrow, too.

2. Grab your creative friends..

..and your not-so-creative friends. Creating awesome art doesn’t have to be a solo journey. In fact, being creative is a ton more fun with your best friends by your side (either in person, or in the Zoom square next to you)! Painting with others is also a great way to jumpstart your imagination and feed off of each other’s energy. That’s called a win-win!

So, you’ve talked to your friends, and they’re (obviously) interested, but you don’t really know what to do. Don’t worry, the answer is one click away: host a paint party! Hosting a party can be stressful, but Creatively has your back. Just choose your favorite Creatively painting, get everyone together, and relax because Creatively is already 100% beginner-friendly. Plus, we offer monthly subscriptions, which means we send an entire paint party right to your door every month. Talk about keeping you accountable!

3. Look for inspiration

It can be hard to know where to start, but don’t force yourself to paint something you’re not really that interested in. To enjoy the art of being creative, first look for inspiration. Inspiration is everywhere – on Pinterest, Youtube, or even just outside your window! Whatever medium, style, or subject is, don’t be afraid to make it your own. You don’t have to paint the tree next door exactly as it is – play around with the colors, shape, and background.

4. Start

Ah, the hardest part of trying something new: starting. It’s easy to look at a blank canvas and give up before even trying. But what if I told you you’ve basically already started? I mean, you’re reading this blog post, so you now have the tools to go out and be your best creative self! Plus, creativity is more about the process rather than the finished product. So before you dive into your next masterpiece, make sure you’re in the mindset to have a good time.

Still not sure how to start? Good news: there are a million different ways! Go for a walk to find inspiration, finalize time in your schedule to start your next artistic endeavor, or, more conventionally, just make that first brushstroke. After that, keep those creative juices flowing and you’ll have created something entirely unique and new in no time!

5. Break the rules

Paint outside the lines, get creative with your strokes, mix those colors! Sure, some art mediums choose to play by the rules, but Creatively only has one rule: There are no rules.

But nonetheless, break any rules that get in your way of being creative. It’s your art, so confidently make it your own! Even if it means making a few mistakes along the way. As long as you’re having fun, it doesn’t really matter what your canvas looks like. Also, did we mention how acrylics let you paint over your mistakes? By dipping your brush into acrylic painting, you can keep your paint nights fun, laid-back, and full of laughter.

As always, stay fearless! The vino helps, wink wink.

Also, we hope you show off what you created! Use hashtag #creativelybox on Facebook and Instagram for a chance to be featured.
